Based in London, Ami Penfold is among the most highly respected and hard working creative make-up designers in the industry. A stickler for craftsmanship, and with over 15 years experience, she works in collaboration with many innovative directors and photographers in advertising, theatre, tv and fashion, including, Terry Gilliam, Greg Williams, Rupert Sanders, Adrian Myers, Tim Bret Day, Simon Powell, and many others.
Ami originally studied graphic design and Illustration at Central Saint Martins and began her career as a freelance art director for Future Publishing. Working across numerous Future publications over a 7 year period, it was a fast paced learning curve!. working closely with various editors on many different magazine titles.
After a few years working in publishing, propelled by a love of hands-on artistic creativity, Ami began working with freelance photographers, & naturally progressed to combine her passion for illustration and the 'art of make up'. She studied period make-up & prosthetics and soon found herself excelling in another creative role. In recent years this has included supervising make-up teams in theatre and teaching her exceptional make up artistry skills at the L'Oreal academy.
Ami's well-known personal approach can be described as connective, artistic, calm and professional. With acute flair and creativity for design, style and conceptualization of 'characters'.
